Washington said that we must avoid forming political parties because it would separate our country. We ignored him then, but look at where we are now, boy was he right. Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson were two people of separate political parties who disagreed on almost every matter. Hamilton used to be poor and grew up in St.Croix. When he was sent to the mainland he became the loud mouthed Secretary of Treasury under Washington’s leadership. Whereas Jefferson was born very rich in Virginia, and became the Secretary of State while Washington was incharge. Thomas Jefferson, however, was not as good as Hamilton at speaking in front of the crowds. Hamilton thought that we should have an economy where it is business-based and was full of cities. He wanted to use the government’s powers to promote business, manufacturing, and trade. His goal was to build lots of cities so more immigrants would want to move to the U.S. Also, Hamilton wanted to establish a national bank as well as a national currency. That way they didn’t have to go through what France went through in the French Revolution just because someone liked spending money. On the other hand, Jefferson thought that an agriculture-based economy that was full of farmland would work better. He thought that an economy based on agriculture would work better than one promoting business. Jefferson’s main idea about this was that more farmland equals more food. More food means less trade, and less trade meant that there’d be less import taxes, resulting in less money America had to pay. He was against the national bank thinking that it was unconstitutional. This wasn’t the only thing they disagreed
