Why did Hamilton believe a national debt would strengthen the United States and help to ensure its survival?
Hamilton’s financial plan was based off on a plan based off on public credit or redemption and assumption. Alexander Hamilton wanted to buy back all of the loans in full, which is called funding at par. He wanted to make public credit apparent by uniting all the state’s debt into one united national debt, which means that none of the states are now responsible for paying their own individual debts. In addition, his view was that with this public credit, he can get good credit which would secure nice loans with the Dutch and British financieres, which would strengthen the United States.

The Jeffersonians, or Democratic-Republic, believed that they should be helping Franch since they viewed the French Revolution an extension of the American Revolution since this revolution also fought for natural rights, like the American Revolution. The Hamiltonians, or Federalists, in opposition believed that staying neutral was the right way to go in order to trade equally with both sides and benefit from both perspectives. Since Jefferson is the opposite political party of John Adams, who a Federalist, by Jefferson becoming the third president, it showed the nation how there can be a peaceful shift in power from one party to the other. In addition, he believed that it showed how governments can be corrected even in a time where there was partisan conflict. Finally, it also showed that even in times of violence, a truly democratic government like the one they had was not at fault as any fit man had the right to becoming president.

The main reason as to the why the United States wanted to go to war against the western Indians was because they still had this leftover motivation from the Revolution to continue expanding, which cut into Indian lands, which led to conflict. In order to show their power, they expanded into Indian’s lands because they wanted to show sovereignty and ownership. Also, in technical terms, the U.S. had control over the Appalachian lands, even though it was Indian territory due to the Treaty of Paris with Britain, but Indians still claimed it as their land.
