Objective One During my clinical day three, I demonstrated entry-level competence in professional nursing practice in caring for patients with multiple and/or complex unmet human needs. I addressed safety needs, safety in medication administration, effective communication, and surveillance for my patients. First, I addressed safety needs my ensuring the appropriate safety measures were implemented for the patients. Some of the safety measures included, wearing non-skid socks, wearing a yellow armband which indicated fall risk, keeping the bed in lowest position, two side rails up, bed locked, and the call light within reach.

Developing professional roles of nurses are highly recognized and nurtured. A nurse plays an essential role in the healthcare system.
Standardizing nursing practice started even from the Florence Nightingale era. Advancement of study, researches and trails provide more support for nursing practice. Care giving to an individual of couse depend upon the mentality of the nurse, but if a standard is set in the unit for the best interest of the client all professional have a model to follow. Evidence-based practice is equated with effective decision making, with avoidance of habitual practice and with enhanced clinical performance. Even with evidence practice decision making is crucial depend upon each situation.
Professional Mission Statement The knowledge I gained in this Professional Roles and Value course is that nursing has many professional roles. The changes of nursing from earlier history to today show a promise to the advancement and development of different nursing career opportunities in the future. Understanding regulatory agency, professional nursing organization, nursing history, professional nursing figures, theories, and nursing code of ethics, my knowledge has broadened in nursing. The functional differences between a regulatory agency and professional nursing organization made me aware of the benefits and services they offer for nursing.
The various nursing roles include decision-making, patient safety, safe environment, communicate effectively with the healthcare team, and participate in updating healthcare policies and procedures. Registered nurses can build their clinical and professional capabilities through education, clinical experience, a context of practice, relevant legislation and the employment setting to develop skills that remain within the legislated professional practice standards, codes, and competencies. RNs should only deliver care within their scope of practice. A tool such as a decision-making framework and decision-making tools are developed by NMBA to guide nurses in making decisions about their scope of practice. RNs should be accountable for any decisions they make in their nursing practice and should be able to justify their decisions based on the code of ethics and professional conduct, evidence-based practice, policies and procedures of the workplace setting.
The definition of professionalism according to The Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus is that professionalism is “of or belonging to or connected with a profession, along with being trained, practiced, veteran, experienced, qualified, licensed; competent, able, skilled, expert, masterful, and proficient (2009).” This definition is to include all walks of life whether it be a plumber, baseball player, or even a nurse. As it pertains to a nurse the definition of professionalism according to the book Essentials for Nursing Practice, from the perspective of the patient defines professionalism as, “a patient’s acceptance of you as a professional often depends on the manner in which you convey a professional and caring image (Potter, 2015).”
