According to Hinkle and Cheever (2014), Evidence-based practice is not about emerging new knowledge or confirming existing knowledge. It is about interpreting the evidence and applying it to clinical decision-making. And clinical opinion validates existing knowledge based on a theory. Furthermore, Evidence-based practice is a practice that is supported by the reaches that considers the health care setting, patients, and clinical judgment (Hinkle and Cheever, 7) This week I was able to practice in relaxation techniques with my patient.
Evidence based practice (EBP) is to demonstrate the best practice, which has been supported, with a clear rationale to back it up, while acknowledging the patient/clients best interest. In this professional outline it will be discussed why EBP is so important to start with student nurses career and continuing throughout the nursing career and the second main point will be on the impact it has on patient outcomes regardless of discipline. I believe if this mind set is instilled early in the nurses career the practice will evolve it a more proactive
Therefore, practice and research needs to be clearly identified and be kept separated because they represent two different acts. When a patient gives healthcare professionals the permission to “practice”, it is solely for the purpose to improve their health outcomes. By accepting and allowing practice, it does not constitute an agreement be participate in a research. It would be crossing the boundaries to perform a research when the healthcare professionals were expected to improve patient’s well-being.
In my opinion, to ensure that a treatment program is evidence based, a probation officer must know current “evidence-based practices” that already work in Probation and Parole supervision. They should have knowledge of evidence-based practices that apply to program providers, field officers, supervisors, and administrators. Ultimately, I believe that it is always necessary to improve one’s knowledge and skills, then apply them into practice, utilizing only what constitutes an evidence-based effective approach.
Implications for practice Findings showed that for a proper care planning, vital stability factors as well as specific identified in the study must be dully addressed and considered. On this premise, the relevance and importance of our principal framework (Figure 3) transcends risk identification and elimination but provide an explanation on how the challenges each factor pose at different times and situations. The translation of our evidence into actionable insight which would facilitate smooth practice is ongoing and the stage involve the formulation, design, piloting, and propagation of evident-based tools which can aid social workers to successfully make efficient, actionable formulation, and care plans for placement that appears unstable and at the verge of collapsing. Research recommendations While efforts have been concentrated on developing a working model of placement instability in this study, there is a need for more in-depth analysis and report on the fundamental processes supporting the effects of vulnerability and protective factors.
The theory of evidence based practice is not only an approach that targets for quality of patients but also highly improves the level of accountability in the health care sector by promoting a life-time learning process. Evidence based practice addresses the compulsory need for quality research evidence and quality practice all in struggle to support the care of a patient. Below is a brief description of the five models of evidence based practice(“ LibGuides at Oregon Health & Science University,” n.d.). Ask: Get some information about the consideration of people, groups, or populaces. Acquire: Secure the best accessible proof with respect to the inquiry.
There are a few different ways a nurse is able to keep current on policies that impact their practice. First, continuing nursing education (CNE) is one of the primary ways to keep current. “CNE is defined as programs beyond the basic nursing preparation that are designed to promote and enrich knowledge, improve skills, and develop attitudes for the enhancement of nursing practice, thus improving health care to the public [Board Rule 216.1(12)]” (Texas Board of Nursing, 2013). Continuing nursing education is a requirement for license renewal but is also an excellent resource for finding out new evidence based practice policies. The next way to be up to date on policies would be going for certification in a nurse’s specific specialty.
The use of evidence based practice in the hospital setting is increasing since research proving that integration of evidence based healthcare has a lot of benefits in this setting, and achieves the best possible outcomes for the patient . Improved patient outcomes is a result of the higher quality of care given by providers when following the most recent and updated evidence of the effect of care at the point of care. Utilization of evidence based practice also increases clinicians confidence in their care, allows them to adapt to new care, improve their skills, as well as their critical thinking and decision making skills. This in turn leads to higher clinician job satisfaction which promotes improved care of the patients through improved
The impact of evidence based practice (EBV) has reflected across the nursing practice, education and science. I have been able to acquire a better knowledge of how research relates to nursing practice, and how findings could be used to transform the field of nursing. As a nurse, I have been able to recognize shortcomings with element of practice, process and procedures. However, I lack a strong ability to create a strategy for change. From this class, I have been able to know the constituents of an evidence based project including a PICOT question.
I believe out of the seven evidence based decision making implementation principles, there are two that are consistent with the idea of recognizing failure to promote innovation. “ Treat your organization as an unfinished prototype” is the first evidence, we shouldn’t be afraid to accept new ideas or concepts in our company. Employees should feel comfortable thinking outside the box and coming to us with any idea, no matter how silly they may seem. For example Amanda Zolten though outside the box by bringing the kitty and doing something different for the company. The second one is the seven evidence that states that “we should learn from failure by using the facts to make things better.”
The literature offers a variety of definitions for the term evidence-based practices (EBP). One description of EBP is that it can be used as a decision-making process which is supported by the best available evidence and professional judgement. Gibbs (2003) and Gambrill (2001) refer to this as a framework or model that is more than the use of research-supported interventions because it embodies a comprehensive approach to practice. Adopting such an approach provides practitioners with the freedom to choose interventions that have available evidence for decision-making, rather than making intervention decisions on the basis of other criteria. Alternatively, evidence-based practice is used to refer to specific interventions that have been reviewed and met a level of evidentiary standard.
Thank you for your participation and I found very interesting the information about the benefits of Evidence-Based Practice for instance safety. Studies also reported that in addition to safety, the evidence-based practice offers another advantage that is related to decreasing healthcare costs and reducing medical complications. Indeed, the promise implicit in an evidence-based approach to patient care, that is, the potential for improved patient outcomes at a reduced cost and for shared decision making with a well-informed patient, has led to an increased adoption of the principles of evidence-based medicine (EBM) worldwide. EBM is increasingly used by individual practitioners wishing to be better informed about clinical problems arising daily
Before EBP was imbedded into healthcare, nurses relied in the advice of senior nurses and what they learned through education and trial and error. Floranc enightengal ……. However, it wasn’t until the mid-1800s that evidence-based medicine had its beginnings, but did not come into play until the year of 1972. Through many years different modifications, various groups of nurses have drafted their own versions of evidence-based practice guidelines into play.
1. CONCEPT 1-EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE IN NURSING This concept was deducted from module 2 with the topic “Concept of Evidence-based practice”. Evidenced-based nursing is a way of making decision and providing nursing care that is based on clinical issues and combine it with the most current, relevant research that is available on that issue. Evidence based nursing utilize the most up to date method of providing care, which have been proven via assessing high quality studies and statistically with significant research findings.
Giving care to a patient is not a straightforward process because a patient is made up of advanced systems. Symptoms and the severity of a disease process are dependent on a particular patient, and it may not always be uniform from patient to patient. Because of this, nurses must be able to use their knowledge appropriately to help a patient. Nurses use techniques, such as Evidence Based Practice, in order to integrate new and advanced knowledge into their patient care (Canada, 2016). By exercising evidence based practice, nurses effectively seek knowledge, take experience from past situations, and apply this intelligence to best give patient care (Canada, 2016).
