Objective One During my clinical day three, I demonstrated entry-level competence in professional nursing practice in caring for patients with multiple and/or complex unmet human needs. I addressed safety needs, safety in medication administration, effective communication, and surveillance for my patients. First, I addressed safety needs my ensuring the appropriate safety measures were implemented for the patients. Some of the safety measures included, wearing non-skid socks, wearing a yellow armband which indicated fall risk, keeping the bed in lowest position, two side rails up, bed locked, and the call light within reach.
This paper will discuss the influence and function of the differentiated essential competencies (DECs) for graduates of Texas nursing programs. It will outline the competencies of each nursing educational level, mainly, the associate degree nursing (ADN) and the baccalaureate degree nursing (BDN) programs. These competencies were revised and approved by the Texas board of nursing (TX BON) to assure public safety. So, they are the foundation of the nursing education programs and serve as a guide for professional nurses to provide safe, competent, and patient-centered care. The DECs have twenty-five competencies grouped under four main nursing roles.
QSEN Competencies allow nurses to improve the safety and quality of existing healthcare institutions by continually understanding the KSAs – knowledge, skills, and attitudes. These competencies include patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice (EBP), quality improvement (QI), safety, and informatics. The following paper discusses the above competencies and evaluates how systems thinking affects the quality and safety of the regulators and accreditors. According to Case Western Reserve University (n.d.), nurses should integrate patient-centered care values by communicating sensibly and respectfully while addressing patients' needs to other staff members.

Excepting the ENs’ abilities to assist intervene and evaluate patients health and functional status and administer prescribed medicines or maintain intravenous fluid, ENs and AINs are both have responsibilities to observe patients health status and report changes to the RNs, maintain ongoing communication with RNs regarding the patients’ health and functional status, assist patients with ADL and emotional support, and understand health information technology. By the end of this course I will compute healthcare statistics, and construct charts and graphs. 2. The course topic that I feel like I will be the strongest in will be calculating data and preparing statistical reports for healthcare services.
I believe the ten competencies were selected to give nurses a foundation. They help them navigate through all the roles and expectations a nurse interchangeable undergoes within a split second in an effortless manner; regardless of the professional nursing setting. Two competencies that standout to my nursing practice would have to be Patient Centered Care, along with Teamwork and Collaboration. I remember when I first started out as an LPN in a long-term care facility.

Nurses play an essential role in the healthcare industry. The nurse workforce is made up of licensed nurses: registered nurses (RNs), licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs), along with nurse aides. Registered nurses are responsible for assessments of patients’ needs, development of care plans, medication administration, and treatments, while licensed vocational nurses perform specific care under the delegation of the registered nurses and supervisions. Personal Mission and Vision: I have wanted to become a counselor for many years and the reality is that counseling is deeply intertwined with trauma work. In fact, oftentimes it is the same thing! My motivation for entering this field is my own positive experience with therapists walking alongside myself during times of my own personal trauma. On the flip side, I also feel motivated by the therapists that have failed to support me adequately. These experiences highlighted just how impactful counseling can be and I want to be part of that support in the most positively impactful way that I can.
Self-Regulation and the New Registered Nurse Introduction The nursing profession has been self-regulating in Ontario since 1963. Self-regulation is a privilege granted to professions that have shown they can put the interest of the public ahead of their own professional interests. Proactive self-regulation involves establishing learning goals, strategies to address goals, monitor progress of goals, creation of environments conducive to learning, and maintenance of self-efficacy (Zimmerman & Schunk, 2011).
