The Competing Value Framework is an effective tool in assessing the organizational effectiveness. According to Quinn et al(2015), CVF is based on four models i.e Collaborate , Control, Create and Compete, helps to increase effectiveness by allowing managers to broaden their perspectives. Each model in the CVF Framework has conceptual opposite against to each other. While the human relation model focuses on flexibility and internal focus , the rational goal model focuses on control and external focus. The community blog 3 discussion was based on the topic-Understanding the external environment is a necessary attribute of a modern tourism and hospitality manager. The organization operates in a very complex and dynamic environment. The external environment is made of political , environmental, socio-cultural, technological , economical and legal also referred to as 'PESTEL'. These factors are ever changing and have direct or indirect impacts on how an organization operate. The external environment is dominated by uncertainties and all of the organizations are operating to cater to the customers' needs and demands. So as a manager , he should be able to understand and analyse the external environment in order to respond to changes and flexible enough to allow adaptability within the organization. As a result, the organization will be able to benefit from the opportunities and avoid threats in the external environment(Turkay, Somlaz & Engul 2011). In order to respond to complex situations , the managers have to allow flexibility in the organization. CVF states that the most effective organizations or the most effective leader have competency in each of the four quadrants in the CVF model. They are able to act soft and strict, flexibly and stably , they are controlling and empowering . They are paradoxical(Lavine 2014). An individual who only focuses in one competency may be very effective in that approach however, it does not make them an effective leader. Most of the managers manage well in specific situations but fail to do so in others. The managers who can integrate across the four quadrants are able to perform well in complex situations. A master manager is able to blend and use all of the four models in different types of situations
