Comprehensive Sex Education Is Better Than Abstinence-Centered Education Currently, adolescence sexual issues, such as unintended pregnancy and high rate of STDs (sexually transmitted diseases), have aroused great public concern in the worldwide. In addition, it has drawn a heated discussion of the comparison between comprehensive sex education programs and abstinence-centered education. According to Advocates for Youth, comprehensive sex education programs are designed for helping adolescences to understand sexuality and methods of contraception and abstinence. While abstinence-centered education tends to morally corrected the concept of sexual expression for teenagers. Some people insist that the comprehensive sex education programs are active and more effective. There were 23 effective comprehensive sex education programs including school-based, community-based or clinic-based in the United States. According to the reviews of Advocates for Youth, the timing of first sex is significant delayed, and teen pregnancy, HIV or other sexually transmitted infections are declined. The comprehensive sex education programs also help sexually active youth to increase using condoms or other contraception and reduce the incidence of unprotected sex.
