In 1994, Police Commissioner William Bratton first introduced the high performance driven process call Computer Comparison Statistics known as CompStat for short. Bratton aimed to use Compstat as a model in New York to help reduce crime. In reducing crime this blueprint was adopted as a process while emphasizing on accountability. Different levels within police organizations empower the commanders to become better leaders all-the-while encouraging problem-solving skills. Therefore, this method is used by law enforcement agencies to analyze and identify problems quickly while finding solutions to the problems that have been identified (Eterno and Silverman, 2005).
Bureau of Justice (2013), says reducing crime and achieving department goals is what CompStat is used for. After being introduced in the 1990’s it has improved policing. Although this system empowers commanders many of the departments have goals of developing relationships with the community that are in good standing. However, the system has been criticized for not being compatible with the community as well as inflexible and undermining.
