Concepts From The President's Message

1. Select a concept from the President’s message (or select a related concept of your own).
One concept from the president message that I think is really significant is the first sentence of his letter. The first sentence is “At Miami University, we seek to create an environment characterized by transparency, fairness, and equal access for all students, staff and faculty.” This sentence has a lot of crucial information. The first piece of information is the part is “…we seek to create an environment...” This part of the sentence is very crucial because it goes along with the Code of Love and Honor. The last sentence of the code says “To think that in such a place, I led such a life.” This sentence is about the environment of Miami University.

When there are so many students, staff, and faculty it will be impossible to please everyone at once. For example, I feel that the dining halls could do a better job of including different food from different cultures but someone else might feel that the dining hall food is perfect the way it is. My assumption about this belief is that it is impossible to please thousands of people all at once, because someone will always be unhappy about the environment. For my second belief, I think that every student, staff, and faculty will not want to participate in making the concept possible. There will be a problem with getting everyone to participate in creating this new environment for many different reasons. I feel that many people at Miami University don’t see a problem with the current environment so getting people to wanting to change the environment will be hard. I also think that is will be hard for people to make time to create the new environment because it is very easy for people to just say that it does not affect me so why should I be involved. For example, President Crawford emailed everyone this message, so I bet many people erased the message without even reading it because people thought it was

One thing that was brought up in class that I though was very interesting was the concept of time and how time controls everyone’s live. This is something I often thing about because I feel that I am always looking ahead and thinking about what I need to do in certain time period so I can move on to the next thing. During the school year, my life is controlled by due dates. Time controls how late I stay up doing assignments and how early I need to be up the next day for class. Time will always control everyone’s lives because everyone’s lives have a timer on them. Eventually, everyone will all die and I already know that there will always be more things that I want to do, but there will never be enough time to do all of these things. It is important to manage time the best way possible, so that there is some control over time, but in the end time will always
