Pulling from previous research, the authors use a conceptual model to examine the dimensions of dehumanization. This delves into two categories; human uniqueness and human nature. The authors describe human uniqueness, when denied to an individual, as being seen as child or animal-like, and often seen as stupid. When human nature is denied, people are seen as lacking emotion, machine-like, or as an object.
