The Confederate flag was first flown to show the secession of South Carolina from the union. South Carolina seceded from the union on the grounds that tariffs were being passed to the northern states. Even though in the south the flag meant slavery, the Confederate flag does not represent slavery, it represents a setting in time when slavery was acceptable. The confederate flag and the monuments have caused many debates and riots over the past couple of decades between the Confederates, people who believe in the flag and its monuments and the Federalist, people who oppose the flag and the monuments. I do believe that the Confederate flag should be removed because the flag is a part of history when one state refused to cooperate with the union and choose to secede. People who are supportive of the flag based on the fact that the flag is part of history. The flag should not be on top of the state house. If it is on top of the state house it would glorify slavery and secession, and neither of them exists anymore. …show more content…

The first reason that people support the flag is that they believe that the flag represents a part of southern history, southern heritage, and southern culture. These people tie the flag to the state rights. The second reason is that people see it as a symbol of the south as a bound and discreet place. Many of the people supported the flag because they saw it as a part of history and they did not want the flag to be removed because people fought for the flag and they didn't want that be taken away. Confederates believed they are the reason slaves are free and they are the reason that slaves have equal
