Although Chinese and Korea had a conflict and tension relationship, the development of Korea was directly influenced by local and Chinese ideas and institutions from the era of the three kingdoms, which are Koguryo in the north, Silla in the southeast, and Paekche in the southwest, through the establishment of the post-Yuan Dynasty. For example, in the religious part, Buddhism was introduced, and the first Confucian academy on the peninsula was established in Koguryo where Chinese influence was most notable. The kingdom of Silla, which was the least exposed to the Chinese influence, became the dominant power of the peninsula because of its superior internal cohesion, and forced the Chinese to leave from all except the area adjacent to the Yalu
