Confucianism and Hinduism were both similar in their male-dominant and patriarchal societies. Confucious had very patriarchal views, so in a household, the men would usually be the superiors and have the most respect. Confucius also believed in filial piety, meaning the head of the house and elders would be respected the most. This respect for elders also occurs in Hinduism; it was important to honor the older and wiser because of their hard work in life and how they have provided for people and society. Male dominance in society was established to provide stability and structure throughout society. In Confucianism, family stability was very important because stable households will allow for society to run more efficiently and overall more stable. The Five Relationships concept in Confucianism heavily influenced the roles and actions within the family. For instance, the father was superior to the son in a family. The father would be the leader of the household and would provide insight and guidance, while the son would be lesser than him and would respect him due to filial piety. The Five Relationships established a social hierarchy within the family and allowed people to know their place in the family and society. Compared to Confucianism, Hinduism also had a similar structure in families. Similar to Confucianism views, in Hindu families, the eldest man would be in charge of the household and would have control over many duties concerning the family. Both of these teachings had patriarchal families because men were able to provide more and were able to strengthen and support the families. Growing up, the children would learn of their duties to provide for their family and would learn about their future roles in society. For example, while a daughter is young, she would learn about her duties to serve and obey her husband.
