Music, for many, is a form of communication that cannot otherwise be expressed through a simple word or gesture. In “The Myth of Music” by Rachel M. Harper, the speaker conveys the closeness and authority she feels over music in her life, specifically in terms of the relationship she has with her family, by using (metaphorical) diction and shift in tone, effectively relaying the shield she has put up to protect personal experiences through musical memories. Harper conveys the fact that everyone has been intertwined with music throughout their entire life whether they realize it or not. From the moment someone is born into the world, they are introduced to music. Music is not classified as just instruments and vocals, but rather it’s all around
Rabeoutaue writes, “‘Maybe that's why you like this music, Tamar,'' my father finished. "When we sang freedom songs about the ancient Israelites, we linked ourselves to you. Our people have a lot in common.’” (7). Like her father had mentioned, music has a way of universally connecting people across different backgrounds, cultures, and identities.
”(p. 20) With this in mind, it is clear that music is a vital aspect of keeping society’s happiness and hope at a steady rate. It also signifies that without music there would be only darkness, and society would crumble because of

Music can bring the brightest of joys that keeps us moving through our dull and boring lives. An example of this joy is Ishmael Beah’s life as a boy soldier in his book A Long Way Gone. As he tells you his story, he tells of his dance group with his friends, the times he heard music in the middle of war, and how music saved him from the madness that brewed within him. Music has the unique ability to create peace in a person’s life despite the difficulties surrounding them, and to bring a constant reminder of who they are as a person.
I will use this in my paper by using it as evidence when I explain that Spanish-language music affects the development of self-identity in a university setting where they are uncommon. It can help student balance their cultures and shape their
While all the Greek gods bare unique skills and incredible talents, Athena, Poseidon and Hephaestus are identified as the most important for humanity. The twelve gods, some more than others, are all important for humanity, but I believe Hephaestus, Poseidon and Athena are the greatest cause for a thriving civilization. Together, both Hephaestus and Athena help civilization rise up and evolve from caves to flourishing cities and Poseidon enables and protects ships as they cross his waters. Hephaestus gift to the world is neither inconceivable nor far-fetched but it is a necessity and a key component leading to a civilized and evolved society. Hephaestus is the god of metal work which includes items like armor, swords and shields, key items for wars and battles.

Music is a unique aspect within the African American subculture (Williams & Banjo, 2013, p. 196). Similar to other cultures, African Americans work diligently to maintain their assets and traditions (Templeton, 2008, p.54). Dated back as early as the 1600s, when their forefathers were bought to America (Barrow et al, 2007, p393), music influenced their racial identity. Music stimulates the need to contend with life, interact with feelings (Williams & Banjo, 2013, p. 200), and to master self-efficacy (Barrow et al, 2007, p. 398) no matter the age of the listener. Whether it is gospel or secular music, lyrics in music influence the actions (Majied, 2013, p. 269) and shapes the brain’s development, especially during adolescence.

“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything” (Plato). If my childhood was filled with anything: it was imagination. From my earliest memories of my cousin, and I putting on a sold out concert on my papaw’s front porch; to putting my baby dolls to sleep with lullabies. Music has always been a big part of my life: it was the one thing I could always count on, no matter where I went; and that still stands true today.
Meaningful artistic moments happen every day to people, at times we don’t notice we’re having one until the moment passes or maybe something powerful that happened to you through an experience could have not had any impact on another person. A moving musical experience for me naturally, would be when I saw the musical Wicked for the first time. I chose this moving artistic experience for various amounts of reasons, firstly and foremost, the main reason I chose this movingly artistic experience is the fact that this was the first musical I had ever seen and before then I had no idea on how captivated by music I would be. Not long ago, my Mom bought me the ultimate surprise that couldn’t be topped. After years and years of repetitive listening
This universal language of music also embodies the basic human motivation of unification. Rehfeldt, et al. (2021) claim “Because of the symbolic meaning assigned to particular types of music by a sociocultural community, and because of the shared experience that people may have while producing or listening to music, music may serve to unify groups of people” (p. 770). Music creates a sense of belonging for both the artists creating the music and the listeners enjoying the music. Each variation of music speaks to the basic human motivation of unification in a unique way.
