While all the Greek gods bare unique skills and incredible talents, Athena, Poseidon and Hephaestus are identified as the most important for humanity. The twelve gods, some more than others, are all important for humanity, but I believe Hephaestus, Poseidon and Athena are the greatest cause for a thriving civilization. Together, both Hephaestus and Athena help civilization rise up and evolve from caves to flourishing cities and Poseidon enables and protects ships as they cross his waters. Hephaestus gift to the world is neither inconceivable nor far-fetched but it is a necessity and a key component leading to a civilized and evolved society. Hephaestus is the god of metal work which includes items like armor, swords and shields, key items for wars and battles. The metalwork he invented and crafted helped gear warriors and ultimately win battles. In Homeric Hymn (20) he is credited with more than just metalwork, he is credited with the invention and teaching of all crafts. With Athena, the two “taught glorious crafts” (HH 20.2) to people and together helped society grow. …show more content…

Despite this, she is known as the “defender of cities” (HH 11.1). Athena is the goddess of war and is comparable to Ares, the god of war. The two are different however, as Athena was a more strategic warrior compared to Ares, who represents pure blood and violence. Athena saved and protected countless people and helped strategize and win many wars. Winning wars and destroying flimsy cities helps shape and improve society. Decrepit, broken-down cities can be conquered and replaced with new, stronger cities in an attempt to improve society
