The Greek God Hephaestus Hephaestus is one of the twelve Olympian gods in ancient Greek mythology. He is the son of Zeus and Hera, who are the king and queen of the gods. He is the god of metalworking, artisans, stoneworking, and fire. He was born crippled, and was often depicted by ancient Greek artists as holding a stick to help with walking. Hephaestus is known as being one of the ugliest gods. He was also born with a crippled foot. Hera, his mother, was so displeased with his appearance that she threw him off of Mount Olympus.
