For many years, there has been a conspiracy theory going around stating that the CIA is responsible for the birth of AIDS. Many Americans are choosing to believe that the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) injected African-Americans and homosexuals with this deadly disease many, many years ago. This conspiracy theory started in 1980 and is still around a decade later. With known facts that the CIA definitely is questioned about their integrity to our nation, I find it very hard to believe that they have the intelligence and darkness to create a disease that’s incurable and purposely pass it on to only African-Americans and homosexuals. AIDS/HIV was introduced in the 1920’s by African-Americans in Belgian Congo. There are two types of HIV, HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is described as more easily transmittable and is the cause of most HIV cases across the globe. HIV-1 was found in chimpanzees and monkeys that resided in the forests of Central African nations of Cameron, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Republic of Congo, and Central African Republic. HIV-2 is less transmittable and is more common in West Africa and the Ivory Coast. From the history of AIDS/HIV, I can see why African-Americans would think that the CIA created AIDS and purposely injected them with it. All of this information correlates with their opinions, and is a debatable topic, but I still find it hard to believe that the CIA has anything to do with AIDS regarding all of the information I stated above about this conspiracy …show more content…

In a recent article, (http://www.rense.com/general75/mmo.htm) Alan Cantwell states that, and I quote, “I am not a virologist and I would never speculate exactly how HIV was “made”. Suffice to say, I believe HIV came out of primate (monkey, chimp) animal cancer research whereby primates were injected (before AIDS) with various cancer-causing and immunosuppressive viruses – and these viruses were transferred between various animal species as well and adapted to human tissue.” (Cantwell 2017). This being said I argue that the CIA had no involvement in the creation of aids and that this is simply a conspiracy theory. However, there are many people that believe this conspiracy. Jesse Richardson reports that, and I quote, “There are several people who fully believe this conspiracy theory and claim that the origins of AIDS were in government sponsored laboratories. Former South African president, Thabo Mbeki, denies the allegations that the disease originated in Africa, and claims the U.S. government manufactured this disease in their labs” (Richardson 2014).
