The topic I chose for my historical analysis paper was the Constitutional Convention. In 1787, delegates joined together to review and amend the Articles of Confederation but the Constitutional Convention went beyond this. The convention lasted from May of 1787 to September of 1787. During these long and strenuous four months, the delegates came together and discussed the future of the country and how it should be governed. They ended up drafting the constitution which is the basis and outline for our country at that time and also today. The constitution plays an enormous role in how our country is set up. Its important to analyze both primary and secondary sources about this convention because it can give us insight to the values and ideas that our country was built on to …show more content…

At this time, slaves were not considered citizens and were being treated horrendously. However, when it came to where they would fall in state representation, there was heavy debate. Since there were more slaves in the south, they wanted them to be counted in the representation numbers so they had more power in congress. The south relied heavily on slaves to fuel their economy which was booming due to crops like cotton and Bri Ramos. I would change this to the full course name: HIST-1483-997 Bri Ramos Use Times New Roman font tobacco. On the other hand, the northern states did not want the enslaved African Americans to count towards representation in government because they did not have as many, making the south more powerful if the slaves were counted. The delegates reached a compromise called the Three-Fifths Compromise which counted each slave as three-fifths of a person for representation purposes.
