After reading chapter one of Consumerism In World History, I strongly feel that excessive consumerism is mainly due to the cultural beliefs of the individual and pressure from the society that the person lives in. I believe this because the author writes “for their minds and thoughts are intent upon nothing but bodily pleasure and the delights of society.”(pg.7, paragraph 4) this quote helps show that people will function similarly in a society and have close to the same wants as others around them.
