Individual factors – Coping Casey has been handling stress quite well believing that she needs to care for Christine plus the love she has for her. She was able to summon courage to divorce Christine’s father and move to a separate apartment with her daughter; that is quite a brave step to take and not every women is able to leave an abusive relationship to move on with their lives. After her divorce, Casey has engaged in different relationships, but she tends to opt out because she was experiencing abuse. Casey is feeling frustrated and depressed because of her boss at work, but she keeps going to her job because she love her job and she want to make ends meet. The ability to have a post-secondary school education and secure a job is an achievement, even though the job is not paying well to cover up for she and Christine’s needs. Casey’s ability to care for her daughter without the support from Christine’s father, and ability to keep going to her workplace that is bringing her lots of stress is a huge strength that she has, regardless of her challenges. The fact that Casey blames herself for involving with men who are physically, emotionally or verbally abusive towards her, in addition, to the constant stressors she is experiencing from her boss demoralizes her hopes and beliefs. The client needs to realize that we cannot control our lives in some aspect, and it is not her fault for involving in those relationships. She also blames herself for being taken advantage of by her boss and she could not do anything to stop it. The clients would like to change her job to the one that pays higher, but within the time frame and hours of the job she is currently doing. In addition to the forms of oppression (sexism and classism) she is experiencing through her boss at workplace. Despite the stressors and challenges, Casey was able to go to work because of the love and care she has Christine. But the obstacles and challenges that may hinder positive change is the boss in her current job, which triggers her emotions and makes her feel overwhelmed and depressed. Casey has cognitively responded well to the issues/challenges she is experiencing by recognizing that she need to keep going to work and care for her daughter. In terms of emotional, she tends to overwhelmed and suffered from mild depression as a result of the life stressors. In terms of her behaviours, she does not practice self-care and she believes she does not deserve it, or neither can she have time for it. All of this has impact on her current situation of feeling depressed because she does not have the time to self-meditate. Casey’s positive thoughts has helped her thus far, which will help her to work towards her goal to secure a new job that pays higher, and free of oppression. But her depressed feeling can have a negative impact on her that may lead to health
