There are plenty of similarities between the excerpts of Coral Island and Lord of the Flies. One example, both books seem to use the gender of boys. The personalities of Ralph and Jack are very similar in both. Jack loves to hunt pigs and has a condescending attitude towards people when they don't follow him. On the other hand, Ralph presents himself not much of a hunter as he doesn't really have aim and is more of an outsider. With limited supply of food both groups are bound to eat the wild pigs and hogs that habit their islands. Furthermore, they must hunt to find food.
