I attended the Harlingen Arts and Heritage Museum. In the museum, I saw the exhibit by Mario Godinez called “Visions from a Subconscious Mind.” I chose “Corazon de Andy” by Mario Godinez. The media is acrylic on a 24 x 36 canvas. “Corazon de Andy” is an art piece that shows political and religious statements. The visual appearance of the art is very colorful and has so much space around the heart. Mario explained why he used bright colors in the painting, “The fact that I use bright colors? That’s just to attract you. But once you’re there and you’re having a one-on-one with the artwork, then you get to find out a little bit about yourself” (Moyer). All the monsters in the painting could relate to your own inner demons. In the painting, his eyes look tired and sad which I thought the reason was that he is tired of his inner demons. There is also a pair of hands looking that it is praying to God to help in the left corner. In the painting, there is a blue orb in the middle which might symbolize the third eye. In it, there is an explosion which might symbolize a war because of the U.S President. There are also teardrops all throughout the painting which might mean sadness. At the bottom of the painting, there is an owl which might symbolize wisdom. In the top of the painting, there is something that looks like an infinity sign. That might mean people will always be fighting their inner demons. An individual’s role and ability to change the world is that they can shed more light on mental illness and health. The political issue in the painting that I identify is in the blue orb in the middle. In it, there is an explosion which might mean a war will come. Mario has said that the use of the third eye in his paintings is because it “symbolizes the awareness of what was to come” (Moyer). There is also a pair of hands together praying.
