Could World War II and its atrocities have been prevented? This question has plagued the minds of historians ever since the tragic events of the war. Many actions caused the outbreak of World War II, and personally, I believe that the war could not have been prevented. The state of Japan’s aggression in the Pacific as well as the mixed powers of Germany and Italy in Europe would have caused a war no matter what measures were taken to prevent it. Also, the passive nature of countries such as France and Great Britain led to the situation spiraling out of control, but factors caused them to have no choice. Japan lacked the natural resources to sustain society, so they began to seek new territory from which to draw raw materials from. Japan began to take control of islands in the Pacific Ocean. Also, they invaded the Korean Peninsula as well as China. Just as France and Britain did with Germany, the United States at first took no action against Japan besides warning the Japanese government that further actions would be taken if they did not stop their violence. Eventually, the United States tried to control Japan by limiting the trade of natural resources with them in an attempt to stop the Japanese conquest. However, this angered the Japanese, and they retaliated against the United States by attacking Pearl Harbor. This shows how actions taken against a country that is overaggressive can have a negative effect and cause conflict such as if Britain had stepped in against Germany in Europe. Back to the Pacific theater, war with Japan was inevitable considering that they had to attack other countries and territories to gain resources. Eventually, some kind of action besides sanctions would have had to be taken on them to control them, but sanctions were enough to trigger war.
