The Council of Trent was an important ecumenical council during 1545 to 1563 that had played a significant role in the Counter-Reformation of the Church. Together, the council had reinforced the Catholic view by examining and clarifying the beliefs and practises of the Catholic Church, stopped the spread of Protestantism and to reform the Catholic Church. The main purpose of the Council of Trent was to disapprove and belittle the Protestant beliefs that had been opposing the Roman Catholic beliefs.

They discussed issues such as poorly educated priests which had meant that they spread the wrong message of God and as they were not fully educated within the profession, they were not working to their full capability. To fix this, the council created an establishment of seminaries as a training place for Priests. Another was the distribution and purchasing of indulgences. Indulgences were bought and believed to grant forgiveness, or in some sense pardon anyone of their sins. Later on they had began to be abused by church leaders as they were used by priests and bishops in a way to scam people of their money. At a young age, he had always dreamed of performing great acts of kindness. It was in 1521 when Ignatius had been seriously wounded when battle with the French. During his recovery period, he had experienced a sort of conversion. He became overjoyed whilst reading about the life of Jesus and the saints and he came to the conclusion that this was God advising him to follow a certain path. Over the duration of the following years, he soon became familiar with the field of spiritual direction. He is significant because of his book spiritual exercises which he had collected various pieces of writing for. It eventually became one of the most influential books on spiritual life ever written. He was significant because him and fellow Christians, together founded the Society of Jesus (or the Jesuits). The society of Jesus are a catholic religious order with the mission in mind to go anywhere and perform anything to help, especially where it is most desperately needed. It is noted for its charitable and missionary actions, and “Once regarded by many as the principal agent of the counter reformation”. He taught the catechism to the children, helped guide adults in the Spiritual Exercises, and aided in assisting the poor. St Ignatius Loyola is still remembered to this day as many fellow Christians had been felt as if they had been personally touched by Ignatian in a spiritual sense. He is still relevant in
