When you hear the term “Country Music” you probably think of the honky-tonk, banjo playing, rural area, type of music. Although that can be the case, there are many characteristics and subgenres of country music. Some of the most popular and well-known country artists include George Strait, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and the more modern artists including Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, and Brad Paisley. Although these artists are all considered country music stars, they all have a unique style and type of music that they perform. One of my favorite artists to listen to and also one of the most popular artists during the early and mid 21st century, is Brad Paisley. Within these new albums, contained songs that had a wide range of characteristics. He created and performed songs with new instrumentals, lyrics, and styles of music. During this time, one of my favorite songs of all time was created, “Whiskey Lullaby”. Brad partnered with Alison Krauss, a traditional bluegrass singer, to perform this heartfelt song. This song was created by Jon Randall, and Bill Anderson, and was based off of Randalls, recent divorce. He included new styles of singing, performing, and word play. Like I mentioned above, he often included humorous lyrics, story telling, and romance/love type stories within his songs. Also, in my opinion, country music was straying away from traditional country music during his career, and he kept traditional country music on track and helped it maintain its popular characteristics. Paisley also sometimes included gospel characteristics into some of his music and songs. Some songs included “When We All Get to Heaven”, “Me and Jesus”, and “The Old Rugged Cross”. All of these songs and many more include information about the gospel and christianity because Brad Paisley is known to be Christian. Country music is often considered to be associated with the south and rural parts of America, and in these areas, religion is very popular. Growing up in Tennessee, Brad was surrounded by religion and even performed at his church as I mentioned above. Although religion has been in country music for a longer period of time, I believe that Brad made it very popular, and made many influences on country music in
