LETTER OF INTENT
I write to apply for the African Leaders of Tomorrow (ALT) Scholarship to increase my knowledge of public policy with a focus on health policy. My background in health plus a strong desire for civic advancement makes me a good candidate for the program.
I work as the Technical Officer, Oyo State Health Insurance Agency an arm of the Oyo State Ministry of Health with a mandate to provide health insurance to residents of the State. In my role; I develop, implement and review all standard operating procedures and work practices relating to health insurance, enrolees and facilities. We do this through awareness and advocacy as well as via specific projects. Tracking our reach, we make public our monthly impact – a statistics of what we have achieved. This has led to receiving acknowledgements from the NCD task force of the United Nations and the NCD Alliance team. I was also recently ranked second globally amidst people that created awareness for the just concluded NCD conference in Uruguay. In the long run, we hope to lead the course of reducing incidences of NCDs to the barest minimum in Africa.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in the Department of Physiology, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria with a second-class upper grade. I had some emotional setback in my first year in school and since then, my grades were sterling as I finished with a 3.72 grade-point average and obtained 90% in my final year exams. With a background in health science and civic engagement, the ALT program majoring in Health Policy will better equip me for leadership roles in my career

The upgrade in my knowledge especially as regards policy making will be strategic in achieving my career and civic goals. This will be achieved at one of my chosen institution for the ALT program.
The School of Public Policy at University of Calgary prides itself in training policy professionals towards attaining leadership roles. The research-based Capstone project interests me most in the program. At the end of the projects, findings are presented at the Capstone Symposium for discussions and networking. This will be a great platform to work on my case study, share and learn new ideas on health inequalities.
The School of Public Policy & Governance, University of Toronto runs a comprehensive Master of Public Policy program. With opportunities for collaborative programs, internships, gaining valuable interdisciplinary knowledge and policy experience; I anticipate several exposures towards a better understanding of health
