“Over the past 30 years, we have not seen meaningful change in the amount of coverage women athletes receive,” said Cheryl Cooky(McCarter). Cheryl Cooky has been studying Women’s inequality in sports by looking at the last 30 years of data. This makes her reliable since she has been studying in this field. This is a problem because women do not receive the same amount of coverage, opportunities, or pay amount. There has always been a gap in Women's sports; it is something we as humans need to change. As Cheryl Cooky said that as she has been looking at the data from the past 30 she has not seen change. By hearing that People should recognise we need to change and fix gaps. To fix the gaps in Women's sports there needs to be coverage of …show more content…
This is an issue because little girls can’t have role models or in general people can’t watch their games. You don’t have to try hard to find a men's game to watch on television. It’s quite simple, people just have to click on Entertainment and Sports Programming Network which is known as ESPN. “Not only does minimal airtime deprive young girls of athletic role models, the manner in which women athletes are presented affects how people value their sports and their contribution to society.” said Cherly Cook (Cook). There are many cases in the past recent years where the Women's National Basketball Association has been giving terrible opportunities and treated poorly. There was an incident last year during March madness where the organizer of the Women's National Basketball Association March Madness came up short in the weight room (Yucel). The guys had a full gym set up while the girls had a small weight rack. Many people gave backlash to the organizers for how unfair the weight room set up was. Another instance was when this year Las Vegas organizers set up the worst, most unfair college basketball tournament (Lemonceli). These organizers set up a Women’s basketball tournament in a hotel ballroom. They used a portable court and set it up in the hotel ballroom. Players reported that the room was so hot and hard to play in. If we want to solve Women’s inequality in sports we must take action. We should think about having fair opportunities and making basketball tournaments in an actual
