Imagine the pain of looking in the mirror every morning and meeting a face, a body, that isn’t yours. This is something that transgender people all over the world face. People see them as the gender they look like, rather than the gender they identify as, which is an issue easily solved. Hormone treatments. If insurance companies covered hormone therapy it would reduce the rate of suicide among transgender people, make transitioning more affordable, and make transgender people much more comfortable in their own skin.

The treatment allows them to look closer to the gender they identify as, making it easier for them to ‘pass’ as their gender. This results in many people calling them by the appropriate pronouns. It reduces gender dysphoria greatly. While it doesn’t solve every problem, it makes living life a lot more easier. I would certainly be much more comfortable if I was treated with testosterone.
Some people claim that transitioning, in any sense, does not help transgender people at all. While this is true in some cases, in most it is not. Transitioning seems to, most often, make transgender people much more comfortable. Hormone therapy changes little things, from body hair to vocal range, but those little changes make transgender people much more happy with themselves. Passing as the opposite sex near seamlessly allows transgender people to go out in public without worrying about being misgendered, stared at, or assaulted.
In conclusion, by covering hormone therapy, insurance companies would lower suicide rates amongst transgender people, make the cost of transitioning much more affordable, and make transgender people more comfortable in their own
