Archibald John Motley Jr.’s painting, “Mending Socks”, illustrates an elderly woman sitting in a rocking chair. She has a scarlet blanket loosely hung around her shoulders and is wearing a lace-bordered white apron. Above her on the wall is a wooden cross. In the painting she is repairing socks, hence the piece’s name. On the periwinkle table to her left is a small pile of olive green socks.
Dusk had come, silent, ceremonious, which brought her painful but pleasant memories in the diminishing light. Her shaking hands and arthritic fingers from the passing of time were holding the record player’s metal arm. The stylus hopped, moving lightly and quickly over damaged grooves from excessive use, landing very deep in the vinyl recording. She attempted again, one of her hands embracing the other, to the point where the overture’s rewarding hop and crepitation signified the precise spot. The incongruous speakers passed a faint melody of music.
“We the people of the United States, in order to create a more perfect union…” That’s exactly what the Founding Fathers did. America has been considered the greatest country on earth since it was just the 13 colonies. The american democracy is extremely unique. We have a government that gets it’s power from the people it governs.
Knowing that she dies in hospital haunted me and my shoes stuck to the floor and my body refused to move. I learn that people that you love
When I was little about 4or 5 year ago I had lost the closest uncle in my life. I felt broken inside and wanted to cry my eyes out. I could not believe he was gone out of our lives into a new world, he was a brother an uncle and the world to my family. But as I saw mom by his side crying, I knew that moment I had to push aside my feelings and show my mom I was strong in her eyes. At that moment I knew that I had to be considerate to my mom as she cried because I did not want to show a weaker side of me, but to let her know i’m strong enough not to cry by casting my feelings behind me.
Today this community gathers in honor of a dear, young girl taken from her family far too early, under deplorable, heartbreaking circumstances. Everyone knew Connie as a strikingly beautiful, lighthearted, decisive girl. It is rare that a teen can have such capability for strong decision making so early. That is not to say that Connie always made the right decisions, as no teenager ever does, but her willingness to make decisions at all is remarkable. My own surplus of indecision led to several regrettable life moments, and so I hope that Connie had no regrets in her young life, which was cut short far too soon.
One of the most important main and lasting articles in American constitutional history is the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution. The improvement, which was authorized in 1868 back when the Civil War and the annulling of bondage, was established to guarantee that all population rights were considered somewhat under the society and that their rights would not be defiled for one's management. The 14th Amendment has been quoted in various meaningful Supreme Court cases throughout the past, containing Obergefell v. Hodges and Brown v. Board of Education. It has existed while working to annul prejudicial societies, maintain the rights of marginalized groups, and guarantee that all have a right to endure an equal situation
The U.S congress is by law, legally allowed to regulate commerce. Whether it be through states, or if it's through foreign nations, congress does have a right to regulate what it's citizens are doing on the internet. In Article 1, Section 8, Clause 3, listed in our constitution. Yet even though the founding fathers did not mean to intend that congress has accessibility to American's trading via electronics. It still can be implied that trading happens on the internet, and therefore congress is given a right to regulate it.
overpower human behaviors which could lead to incidents against morals. This act was meant to help people keep good morals in check and live healthier, happier lives. Drinking actually became fashionable and exciting, which contrasts the entire notion of living a healthy life without alcohol as a temporary source of happiness. Many Americans drank heavily during this time and wished for the prohibition idea to end. A poem titled “The Alcohol Blues” exemplifies the outstanding desire for alcohol stating, “I’ve got the blues, I’ve got the blues I’ve got the alcoholic blues.
As I slowly walked over to where my mom was sitting I dreaded the conversation that was about to happen. As soon as she handed me the phone I said “hi” and after a long silence I finally heard my father’s booming voice through the phone. “Hey sweetheart, I’m sorry to hear about you and your boyfriend.” When I heard this I couldn’t help but fight back the tears. Crying was never acceptable so I already knew better then to let him hear me cry.
The fourteenth amendment was formed, when the Civil War had just came to a finish, which defeated the Confederacy. Abraham Lincoln, who was president at the time, had declared the slaves freed at the end of the war; but there were still a lot of questions concerning the former Confederates and what the status of slaves in the country would become. Congress shaped the Reconstruction Amendments which included the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth amendments to the constitution. The thirteenth amendment was ratified in December of 1865 and put an end to slavery in the United States. This new law stated that slaves were no longer the property of the people, but the new law did not answer questions about the new rights that they were now definite.

My feelings toward writing aren 't good nor bad. Writing is something i have had difficulty with in my past. I have no problem brainstorming ideas on what topics to write my assignments on, even if i am given a prompt, but I do have difficulty with sitting down and planning my work. I always find myself getting stuck. So I almost never take the time out to plan out my ideas i come up with.
“The girl was running. Running for her life, in the hope of finding a safe haven for her and her family. She never looks back, the only indication her father was still behind her was his ragged breathing above her head, forming puffs of air in this cold morning. She suddenly stumbles on a root, but her mother secures her fall with a small wisp of air. They lock hands, all three of them, and continue pushing themselves, desperately trying to find the others they lost on the way.
I caught myself getting furious at even nominal things. I thought a lot about how I was going to survive without her being here. I thought I was moving on, until one day someone asked me, “ If you had one wish what would it be?” and the first thing I thought was to spend that one wish on my mother.
