According to Crime in America.Net the crime rate in 2015 increased. This increase is attributed to the growing number of cities and metropolitan areas. A topic for debate has been how can we, as a country, stop the increasing crime rate. The key to doing so is to have stricter gun control laws, easier and more affordable access to a top-rate education for the lower economic classes, and the creation of good paying with benefits and thereby provide incentive to get off welfare.
With gun related fatalities, and mass shooting at an all time high, gun control has become a significant and controversial topic. In 2015 372 mass shootings took place in the US, killing 475 people (Guns in the US: The statistics behind the violence, The BBC). These …show more content…

Those who do not graduate high school are 3.5 times more likely to be arrested, and 68 percent of those who are imprisoned in the US do not have a high school diploma (SLJ Staff, Crime Linked to Dropout Rates, Report Says, School Library Journal). To reduce the crime rate is to increase the amount of students graduating high school, and make education more accessible to kids in lower economic classes. The National Dropout Prevention Center/ Network at Clemson University for the past 30 years has been coming up with ways to decrease the amount of students that drop out of high school. “Students report a variety of reasons for dropping out of school; therefore, the solutions are multidimensional. The National Dropout Prevention Center has identified 15 effective strategies that have the most positive impact on the dropout rate.” One of the most of important thing is for students is to be taught from a young age the importance of an education, and what they need to do to become successful. This can be difficult seeing as though in lower economic classes it is not stressed as much as in high social classes. Another key is to create a safe learning environment, a place students can go to escape problems at home.
