For this second internet activity, we are tasked to visit and review the website for our local law enforcement agency, locate the organizational chart and discuss its organizational structure and design. I reside in the city of Miramar, Florida which is located on the southwestern border of Broward County, just north of Miami-Dade County. Miramar has a population of just over 122,000 residents and was incorporated as a city in May, 1955. (“About the City”, n.d.).
Police organizations have been evolving over the years, but still there are so many things that have to be address in order to create a better law enforcement institutions. Police misconduct and police brutality have been the center of many confrontations between police officer and society. It is imperative that police organizations change the police subculture that exist among them that protects any wrongdoing from being disclose in order to promote a more efficient service to society. In the process of doing this assignment I learned how cohesive is the relationship between officers that most of the times protect them when they are acting in a misbehave way. It is really impressive to see how one officer was seen as a traitor in the organization because he decided to report police brutality.
My fieldwork project focuses on criminal justice system specificity on the Kenosha Sheriff’s department. I approach this project with an ethnographic approach which is the scientific description of the customs of individual peoples and cultures and how this will impact the community. Personal values and cultural difference impact the interaction with other and their biases. The fieldwork focuses on the cultural difference, discretion, and discrimination of police and their interaction with the police. The conflict and consensus models reflect two opposite systems in criminal justice. In the conflict model, which works to protect individual rights, “justice is more of a product of conflicts among agencies where the component parts function primarily to serve their own interests”(Cronkhite, 2013, p. 202). Laws in this model reflect the beliefs of the interest groups with the most power and are “used primarily to control the behavior of the defective, dependent, and delinquent, the dangerous classes” (Hagan, 2009, p. 11).

Definition of organizational effectiveness Organizational effectiveness is not only achieved by making sure that all operations in an organization are running smoothly. The Process of the Criminal Justice System There is an order to the process of criminal justice. According to the Center for Victims of Crime (NCVC) (2012), the criminal judicial system is composed of law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, defense attorneys, the court system, and corrections. Law enforcement officers investigate crimes. Once law enforcement officers have conducted their investigations and have arrested the person they believe is the person that committed the crime, the process moves to the prosecution. A prosecutor gets assigned to the case, and the prosecutor 's office has the task of presenting evidence proving the guilt of the person arrested.
U.S Criminal Justice System United States criminal justice system may not be termed as the worst in the world. It is equally not the best system due to a variety of uncoordinated and uncomplimentary efforts among the components of the system that include the corrections, the police force, and the court system. Each of these components has a varying degree of responsibilities in the criminal justice system, which need be executed concurrently. However, due to lack of coordination, the relationship between the elements is characterized by conflicts, friction, and poor communication (Peak, 2012). Many challenges have presented themselves in the field of justice with racial profiling being the most rampant. Racial profiling is used by many police department for similar purposes. Police often use this method based on stereotypes of African Americans and supposed connections to drug and gang activity.
There are three components that make up the criminal justice system – the police, courts, and correctional facilities – they all work together in order to protect individuals and their rights as a citizen of society to live without the fear of becoming the victim of a crime. Crime, simply put is when a person violates criminal law; the criminal justice system is society’s way of implementing social control. When all three components of the criminal justice work together, it functions almost perfectly. For a person to enter the criminal justice system, the process must begin with the law enforcement.
Police organizational structures are entities of two or more people who cooperate to accomplish an objective. This type of structure must be parallel so that it can be effective in achieving the overall goal of protecting and helping the public. For the past several years police agencies have proceeded through a traditional structure but more recently that structure has started to evolve. Traditional structures are based upon principles such as specialization, hierarchy, chain of command, rules and regulations, and official working capacity. Some researchers such as Murmnigham & Conlon (1991), Jehn (1999), Dirks & Parks (2003), Ongori (2009), Whitlam & Cameron (2012) have mostly classified the causes of organizational conflict under three categories which include; task conflict, interpersonal conflict and procedural conflict. Task conflict occurs when an employee is unclear about what is expected of him/her to perform, or how to perform the assigned task, task interdependent and/or when the task given to employees working in a group is not clearly defined by the supervisor. Interpersonal conflict arises when there is proliferation of ideas, or interests between individuals working together, scarce resources, lack of corporation, personality clash or interference over whom to be the first to complete a specific task. While, procedural conflict occurs as a result of bureaucratic bottle neck or disagreement over the procedures to be followed in achieving the set organizational targets or goals. In otherwise, management of organizational conflict cannot be handled with the impression of one-size-fit-all
