My fieldwork project focuses on criminal justice system specificity on the Kenosha Sheriff’s department. I approach this project with an ethnographic approach which is the scientific description of the customs of individual peoples and cultures and how this will impact the community. Personal values and cultural difference impact the interaction with other and their biases. The fieldwork focuses on the cultural difference, discretion, and discrimination of police and their interaction with the police. The way the person is raised during his childhood and the culture they are brought up in. In some situations, officers may end up violating constitutional rights of suspects dealing with search and seizures. This can create a problem because it can create a negative impact that tends to upset the community. Police officers are trusted in their ability to use their discretion to react appropriately to various situations. Discretion levels have changed throughout time and policies have been revised and implemented to set some controls on officers’ discretion power vs. policies. When I was interviewing a Lieutenant and some deputies I was asking question pertaining to police discretion and cultural views some of their response were what I expected that personal views do not play into discretion or discrimination. The questions I ask were does personal views or values impact your decision making? How does the culture of the community affect interaction with the people? How do you determine when to use force or not? Then some question pertaining to criminal justice. Also observed a deputy during a ride-along, we handled a hit n run, disorderly conduct. The hit n
