Throughout my life there has been a few things that I wanted to achieve; a career in the criminal justice field is one of the few. Giving up on my passion for criminal justice is not an option and being accepted into the M.A. in Criminal Justice Program would be the first step in the right direction.
When I first began my college career I didn’t think graduation would come so soon for me because I was able to finish in three years instead of four. This happened so quickly that I wish I could go back and undo the past because I could’ve gave myself the opportunity to apply for the combined B.A./M.A. five-year program; when I considered the opportunity, I had already passed the 100-credit limit and cut my dream short from reality. My interest in criminal justice was sparked when Officer Dominguez became a part of my life. My biological father showed my mother how much he loved her with all his might and physical force. My mother finally gained the courage to leave him the night he hit her in the face with an iron; she left him and for me this night was the beginning of what felt like living in hell. My biological father stalked and harassed us to the point of no return. We endured the worst when my father falsely accused my mother of abusing me to gain full custody. Officer Dominguez came into our lives the night my mother was imprisoned because of these accusations; being that he took interest into us he helped my mother receive justice. Since then, Office Dominguez has continued to remain a role model for myself and has given me a first-hand insight into the criminal justice system.
Not only is acceptance to the M.A. Program for the School of Criminal Justice the beginning of my professional career, it’s also the beginning for me being able to offer my family a better life than what we are currently used to. Recently, my mother left my stepfather and moved to Staten Island, by default all household and financial responsibilities has fallen onto my mother.
