My Values of Equality Milton Friedman, an American economist, in his article “Created Equal”, points out his concept about “Created Equal”. Friedman discusses the different ways that humans are considered to be equal, and then he declares three specific categories for human equality: equality before God, equality of opportunity and equality of outcome. Friedman argues that the first equality is the Founders’ use, the second equality is compatible with liberty, and the third equality is socialism. Equality is such a beautiful word that everyone should appreciate, and Friedman claims his points about its concept from his own comprehension. Opportunity is based on talent. The concept of talent itself is not conflicting with liberty, but the factor of talent would cause inequality in our lives. Because we are all individuals, everyone has different skills they are good at. That’s what we call talent, and the person who has talent in one or more areas would get more advantages for opportunities in their life, which seems unequal. For example, my uncle Peter has a similar experience. His major is computer science and he wants to be a programmer in a big computer company; therefore, he takes a job interview with the company that he wants. There are lots of competitors in this interview, but the company only recruits one person. Peter fails to be chosen, and the guy who graduates from University California of Berkeley is hired. It is not groundless: the lucky guy’s major is computer science and electrical engineering with master’s degree; however, Peter only has graduated from a community college with an associate degree. My uncle lost by talent and lost his opportunity. “No company wants to object talents”, My uncle says, “It seems that it is not equal, but that is our lives, and I have to go ahead.” My uncle’s experience tells me that the opportunity in our lives is not equal when it refers to the factor of talent, and the man whose talents have more areas would have more advantages because many people believe that the man with more talents means he is a better worker. We need to accept this type of inequality, update our talents in more areas and make us more advantaged for
