The Dr. Seuss book, The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins, initially had themes of social class distinction and dominating social elites. As the novel read on, authority seemed to create social order by controlling the lower classes with foolish rules. The social elites such as King Derwin, were protected by the royal guards. Dr. Seuss poked fun at authority figures and their foolish rules in this children’s book. The children’s book displayed Marxist themes of the feudal system, capitalism, and alienation.
When I was in 3rd grade, my teacher used to read us stories about Dr. Seuss and his adventures. The first book I read was Yertle the Turtle and it was the best book I read in 3rd grade. After we finish Yertle the Turtle, My favorite quote from this book is "I know, up on top you are seeing great sights, but down here at the bottom we, too, should have rights." we made Dr. Seuss hats. Dr. Seuss is more than nonsense words and rhyming.

We all have read about great Egyptian rulers such as Ramses II and King Tutankhamun, but many don’t know that there was a woman ruler in ancient Egypt from 1479 – 1457 B.C. and her name was Hatshepsut. A woman that was destined for greatness and rose to the occasion by becoming a pharaoh. I chose the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut because I have always been intrigued with Egyptian History, especially the women who came to rule. When I was in the fifth grade I took a class trip to Brigham Young University to see the Ramses Exhibit and ever since then I have been hooked on the culture and history from ancient Egyptian times. I find women rulers extremely captivating, because just like to today, it is not common place to see a woman rise to great

Her pink hat slid from her head and fell silently into the dirt. The side of her coat was streaked with blood”(10).

It is evident that Merlin is not as important as Arthur in Disney’s rendition because of the lack of development in comparison to the development Arthur receives throughout the story. Another example of his simplification is his attire. Normally, in the texts that date to an earlier period, like The Vita Merlini, Merlin wears robes, like those a cleric would wear. However, he loses these robes and wears the most basic robe possible; a plain blue robe and hat. The change in his attire demonstrates the simplification of Merlin's character the creators chose to portray.
I remember a lesson as a young child at six years old about accepting responsibility for my actions. One day while playing baseball with some neighborhood kids, my baseball cap went missing at the playground. Later on that evening I played in a little league baseball game at the local park. One of my teammates left his baseball cap on the bench after the game as he walked away. I decided that I would replace my stolen cap with the cap he left behind.
