According to dictionary.cambridge.org, Cultural appropriation is defined as the act of taking or utilizing things from a culture that does not belong to someone. When people borrow things from different cultures I don’t think that someone is using cultural items of their own and the make it inappropriate. I personally believe people tend to make fun of other countries by mimicking how people from other cultures dress, how they eat, and activities they do on the daily basis. It hurts different cultures when how they are accustomed to various things are talked about or shown in a negative way. Cultural appropriation is a form of racism, oppression, and genocide. I have seen people attempt to participate in another person’s culture by making it their own.

Native Americans wear a headdress that show what they have accomplished. Its presence shows that they have earned the feathers that are presented on their headdress which is why they feel that people should not wear the headdress as a costume. (metdaan.com) Mexican’s culture is celebrated by sugar skulls in which they wear during Día de Los Muertos which is the day of the dead. Mexicans feel that people that puts a sugar skull on their face is making fun of their culture or their dead ancestors. People that wear dreadlocks are stereotyped. Individuals do not fully understand the challenges that people that created things from their culture have faced in the Western society.
