The Mongols began to conquer Islamic Persian civilization’s starting in 1219. Led by Chinggis Khan’s grandson (Hulegu), there was an immense amount of bloodshed and destruction within Persia. However, after the destruction and mass murder of many innocent citizens, the Mongols began to culturally integrate within the Persian society. This included religious and agricultural aspects of the Persian’s lives. Even though the Mongols were culturally destructive in the beginning of their conquest, they soon after were able to integrate into the Persian culture. This was due to the Mongols ability to control the authority of the economy and leave their nomadic ways they had once lived by. The Mongols used hegemony to control the economy which altered the Persian’s daily lives. After the sacking of Baghdad in 1258, the Mongols continued to conquer many Persian civilizations. Now that the Mongols proved their legitimacy to the Persian people, they began to enforce rules and laws that controlled the economy. “At the same time, a shattered agrarian economy was burdened by heavy taxes… so that the pressure of exploitation was increased by Mongol tax innovations as well as by the invaders’ cupidity.” (insert citations) By the Mongols enforcing their own regulations on what the Persian citizens had to follow, they are using their power to control the economy.
