A Review On the “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time” by Mark Haddon Christopher Boon was born with a mental disorder known as the Asperger syndrome. Nonetheless, Christopher is an extraordinary child who knows “all the countries of the world and their capital cities and every prime numbers up to 7507”. He is also an extremely honest child who is incapable of understanding jokes or metaphors. “This will not be a funny book. I cannot tell jokes because I do not understand them”. He has never been able to cope with events or environments that are out of his comfort zone, until the incident that he stumbled upon a corpse of a dog, where he set out an investigation to solve the case. Right off the bat, this story comes with a twist. It is not narrated by your typical know-it-all, but by a fifteen year old child, with a mental disorder. The readers will be reading through this story with the guidance of Christopher and thus sees what Christopher sees and knows what Christopher feels. It might seem that he is very unreliable as a narrator but in fact, this decision made by the author allows the readers to experience a new perspective. …show more content…

It is apparent from the author’s writing style; how he made use of many short and direct sentences like “I didn’t like him touching me like this” to mirror the mind of an asperger’s victim without having to directly address Christopher having the asperger’s syndrome. As a result of reading in Christopher’s point of view, it will be easier for the readers to understand his actions and behaviour. Therefore, it may be an effective way to show character’s development throughout the story
