Getting home from school and going right onto the computer is common--older generations mock. This is actually very true to the average student today, though itś not as bad as it appears to be for the knowledge and skills they have. The current generation does not have the same general knowledge and skills of the older generations, but they have new skills that they have developed which is more valued in real life situations today. This generation now has the easier tools: the internet, a search engine, video games, and online social media, which creates less difficulties in the pastime. They learn and experience new things through the internet, social media, video games, and etc., social media being an influence on how to react to others without causing confrontation. Even this generation has video games that ¨involves networks of characters that they player must navigate and master,¨ a way to improve the best way to use intellect to get the best results while still enjoying oneś freetime with their own motivation of wanting to continue to improve in that pastime (Johnson pp. 172). All the easy access to information makes it more efficient for people to focus on the tasks at hand than knowing factual things that don't make a difference in most situations or may never be used and this generation never stopped reading, instead changing their system of analyzing different texts. ¨IQ scores in very country that measures them, including the United States, have been rising since the 1930s,¨ proving that knowledge isn't everything, but that through the use of intelligence in problem solving and analysis, this generation has grown and are even better skilled for the real world compared to the generations before (Begley and Interlandi pp. 43). This is important because one cannot talk down or prove any fault in the current generation so that the older generations are fine with putting their dependence on it for continuing on the society effectively.
