Introduction: Extensive and proper training are vital competence for running a successful organization. According to Truitt, it is incumbent on training and development professionals to design, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of their programs in reducing disputes in workplace performance. (Truitt, 2011) Even though there are many influential reasons on why training is needed, some companies feel differently about the way training is conduct and if it’s needed. Some feel question if intense training is needed at all. For my action research proposal, I focused on the training practices at ECPI University Online Division. ECPI University or East Coast Polytechnic Institute is a for-profit college based in Virginia Beach, Virginia that provides undergraduate and graduate level education in an enhanced format. (www.ecpi.edu) ECPI University Online Division Staff is made up over 120 employees who represent the following departments: Admissions, Student Support Services, Registrar, Career Services, and Financial Aid. Three employees from ECPI University were interviewed about how they felt about the training conducted during orientation. The three interviewee represented the Admissions, Student Services and Financial Aid Departments. Each interviewee was asked to explain the process of the training received, how long was the training conducted, how did they feel after the training was complete and what changes, if needed, would they make to the training process. Kia Speller, Sr. Financial Aid Advisor, had similar views to the training process at ECPI University. Ms. Speller had the shortest amount of time for training. Her training was an only for three days. Her training had another obligation, so her training time was cut short. During those days, she learned very little about the company and its policies. Like Ms. Gregg, Ms. Speller also had previous experience as able to work independently after her training. She pointed out a good point during the interview as well. Being that for profit schools have been under scrutiny for their Financial Aid practices, it concerned her that the information that would be relayed could jeopardize the future of the institution. Like her colleagues, Ms. Speller expressed her frustration to her manager, but the policies were never implemented. Her manager left the company before any changes were made. Overall, the views that the employees had was the same. They felt like the training that they received was inadequate and needs improving. There wasn’t a set time for training nor was the training for each individual cohesive. Every department at ECPI University Online Division are required to work together when assisting the students, yet all of the interviewees felt as though the communication between the departments was
