This chapter provides an overview of the traditional bullying and cyber-bullying epidemic. It first gives a description of what traditional bullying is and then examines the subject of cyber-bullying. The text gives recommendations to educators and other professionals on how to manage this issue. The chapter also examines the authors’ study on cyber-bullying called ‘cybersurvey’. It investigates one of the most common practices among children and adolescents, the usage of social media websites. The article considers both the benefits and potential risks in regards to accessing these websites. Benefits explored in this article are socialisation, communication, enhanced learning and access to health information. Risks outlined in this article are cyber bullying, sexting, Facebook depression and privacy issues. The article also discusses the role paediatricians have in assisting families to understand this issue. The authors, both hold an MD qualification and are affiliated with the American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP). The AAP acknowledges no conflict of interest in regards to this article. The text comes from a peer-reviewed source and appears to be unbiased in its language. The AAP declares that all clinical reports automatically expire after five years unless reviewed.
