Memento was first released in the year 2000. It was written and directed by Christian Nolan. The film received many accolades not to mention Academy Awards for the Best Film Editing and Best Original Screenplay. Upon its release, several critics gave their compliments concerning its themes of perception, memory, self-deception, and grief and its broken narrative format. Many of these critics and some media outlets ranked this movie amongst the best for its time

Cynicism characterizes the film’s setting and plot. In the movie, Leonard Shelby (Pearce) is preoccupied with avenging the rape and murder of his spouse since the day that the police dismissed him. Dressed in a costly silk suit, he treads through the open Southern California countryside full of deserted warehouses and incognito motels. The toughness of his quest is heightened by his unique uncorrectable form of memory deprivation. Shelby’s ailment, which in an uncanny manner is a gift, is more afferent as opposed to being metaphysical. Nolan employs it to create a puzzle, incredulity, and a succession of ingenious epistemological mysteries. This movie, in a sense, is like a pragmatic crossword puzzle

Pearce almost fills all the frames of the film and triumphs in the tough job of depicting a man at once perfectly oblivious and radically confident of himself. Though Shelby experiences bouts of misery and spells of fear, he seems indifferent in his associations with Natalie and Teddy. His anxious sycophantic state is that of one exploring a new situation. Save for the manifold recurrence of the initial impressions that he hopelessly attempts to convert into facts, he can never accustom himself to anything.
