Affliction of loss; people come and go. Stephen Chbosky wrote and directed Perks of Being a Wallflower. It is a brilliant film that follows the life of Charlie, the protagonist, who struggles with the loss of his aunt Helen, his dead friend Micheal, and his new friends. Throughout the film there are consistent themes of loss; losing loved ones in family, relationships, and friendships. In the film Charlie has many flashback memories of his aunt Helen and their ‘secret’. There are many notable scenes in this film that indicate how he blames himself for losing the people he lost. He was previously worried that no one would want to be seen with him or be known as the kid who spent his summer in the mental hospital. At first he ate alone but when meeting Patrick at a football game, who he previously recognized in shop class, he introduced himself and sat with him. Soon after Patricks friend, Sam, Joined them. As a result Charlie went to an after party at Patricks friend's house where we met the friend group. They offer Charlie a special brownie that he eats unknowingly, therefore he gets high. As a result It was then where Charlie slipped up and talked about his dead friend to Sam, who was making a milkshake for him. From this encounter, the audience can confirm that Sam has a kind, genuine heart. After opening up about his dead friend Michael, they accepted him into the group. It wasn’t long before Charlie adapted romantic feelings for Sam, but unfortunately Sam was into someone else. Under those circumstances Sam ends up dating that guy who she likes, and Charlie ends up dating Mary Elizabeth after her confession. Charlie didn't feel attracted to her in the slightest but didn’t have the heart to break up with her. Mary Elizabeth didn’t listen to what Charlie had to say, always interrupting him when he tried to speak. However one night when the group was hanging out playing truth or dare, Patrick dared Charlie to kiss the prettiest girl in the room.
