Leonard Shelby’s wife was raped and killed, and he is searching for the person responsible. The only problem is, he got hit in the head and slammed on the sink inducing the dissociative amnesia. Before this however, he was investigating an insurance case on a man named Sammy Jankins. Sammy has dissociative amnesia just like Leonard, but the doctors claim it was only psychological not a physical problem, so Sammy’s wife tries to make him snap out of this disease by changing the clock and making him give her insulin shots multiple times in a very short span of time, eventually leading to her death. Michael Boatwright was a man found unconscious in a Florida hotel, he spent his whole life in America and even served in the Vietnam War. After a traumatic event such as war, a lost loved one, or physical or sexual abuse, a person will have a very hard time remembering anything even who they are as a person. Suicidal thoughts and actions can also be a symptom due to the stress that puts an individual into that situation. Patients say they had woken up “numb” from all emotions and hurt, as if they had experienced so much pain it has become natural and not a burden at all, while in reality they just forgot what they were grieving or hiding from. A person can also show signs of anxiety due to the immense stress of not having a clue why their life seems so alone. Although it can seem to be a real question, “How did I get here?” most of the time it pretends to the lack of insight on themselves as an individual rather than a car, a train, or a plane.
