The FBN1 gene is responsible for this mutation. This gene can reduce the amount of healthy fibrillin-1 proteins, thus resulting in instable tissues
Because they also encourage mucous secretions, macrophage activity on pneumococci is decreased while bacterial adhesion to the epithelium is increased. Mutations aren’t all bad. Some mutations don't result in any sort of change. What we’re looking for is a nonsense mutation, which causes in an abrupt stop in the expression of this dna sequence. The expression of the genet would have otherwise continued were it not for the mutation. This may sound very complicated but in reality all that’s needed to cause the mutation is the change in a single amino acid, as is the case with the CFTR gene.
The thing that I’m most activity involved in a positive way is also the thing that has been the most negative thing in my life. When I was a freshman in high school I got diagnosed with Crohns. Discovered in 1989, Cystic Fibrosis is the most common, fatal genetic disease in the United States. Statistics show that 30,000 people in the US have been named with this disease. (Genome) Cystic Fibrosis is a disease caused when the CFTR (Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Regulator) is defective and the cells do not release the right amount of chloride. This causes for the body to produce thick, sticky mucus that clogs up the lungs, leads to infection, blocks the pancreas, which stops the digestive enzymes from reaching the intestine. Symptoms require; salty tasting skin, wheezing, shortness of breath, persistent coughing, poor growth or weight gain, frequent/bulky stool, and male infertility.
This disease lasts a lifetime and usually gets worse with time. According to thoracic.org, “Cystic fibrosis affects at least 30,000 people in the United States; between 900 and 1,000 new cases are diagnosed every year. One in 29 people of Caucasian ancestry is an unaffected carrier of the CF gene mutation.” Although Cystic fibrosis is more commonly found in white people, there is no scientific evidence or answer on why so many Caucasian people have this disease. According to Ms. Judy Monroe, “…tissue in the pancreas becomes scarred and damaged.
