D4 Response on Representation and Community

After watching the movie in class on representation and media, Stuart Hall defined the word, ‘’representation as the way in which meaning is giving to the things depicted, through images on screen, words on pages which stands for what we are talking about.’’ He also elaborated more saying that meaning that is in giving is a very different kind of distortion, which actually means that our work on representation would be in measuring not gap between of what we think is the true meaning of an event rather how it is presented in media with lot of good work.
And such is presented in media studies as a form of representation. Also in the first introduction of the video, we were asked how media helps us represent our community? What kind of images of black people are we represented with? And who creates the stereotypical representation of black people? Castell made this statement because, he believed that the fundamental battle that is fought in society is basically the battle over the minds of people.
