National Rifle Association is a special interest group that lobbies for the rights of gun owners and works to protect the 2nd Amendment. The House Armed Services Committee (Politicians) funds the ATF (Bureaucrats) and provides political support. The NRA works to insure that the 2nd Amendment is never breached.
The NRA's fight against gun control did not stop here, instead they continued their push further. In 1975, the Institute for Legislative Action was formed as a branch of the NRA that would help elect pro-second amendment candidates and support pro-second amendment litigation in federal and state courts. The article, "The NRA Has Been Outstandingly Successful Where it Really Counts," by Walter Hickey discusses how the NRA-ILA have been able to implement right to carry and other pro-gun laws in states that would not be expected to allow such laws to be passed. Hickey writes that although the ILA works both at the state and federal level they are most successful at the state level having "had at least 230 full legislative victories on the state level in the past ten years alone…" (Hickey).
You should allow handguns in a home, especially if you have stuff or people you would like to protect. For example, if someone breaks into your home in the middle of the night, you need to act fast. You can't go to the kitchen for a knife, instead turn to the side and grab your gun. Also, If a person is threatening to attack you, and they think you have a handgun, they will think twice about whatever they are going to do. You don't even need to pull the trigger.
Furthermore, banning concealed weapons can cause rates of murder to rise (Gius, 2013). Having a concealed weapon is a form of defense, and people should have the right to defend themselves in anyway they see fit, which includes areas outside of one's home (Ruebsamen, 2013). Guns are extremely powerful weapons. They can cause destruction, harm or even death. They can be used to defend and protect or to threaten and kill. Any way you look at it, guns are powerful tools, not only physically but socially.
My personal belief on guns is that they are there to protect us as a society. Whether it be a police officer or a soldier or even your mom, guns can be used for good. I was brought up around guns and I learned how to safely handle them, but others do not have the experience I do and therefore misuse their weapon. We are protected under the second amendment right –the right to bear arms for all citizens—(US constitution) but all citizens includes criminals and mentally insane. Most crimes involving guns, the person is to later be found out to be insane, such as the movie theater killer, he obviously wasn’t in any frame of mind to own a gun.
A gun is made to be used at its full capability. Weapons are used also for protection over your family,(“A ban on assault weapons would not reduce crime”) also said, “ California 's murder rate increased every year for five years, twenty-six percent total. That is a perfect example of why some people feel the need to keep a gun or firearm in their homes, they are aware of the murder rate due to the media. People do not want to take a chance on someone hurting them so they feel the need to have one, witch is understandable because the murder rate has raised in the last 5 years there. You don’t want your firearm to not be able to be used to its maximum strength at a time if someone was to try to harm you, you would want it to be able to be used at its maximum strength to be able to protect you from harm.
The PBS program “Gunned Down: The power of the NRA” highlighted how the NRA continues it’s stranglehold on the government and gun policies. It is quite clear that gun control advocates attempt to play off the emotion of citizens whereas pro gun advocates fear the public into believing the government is attempting to steal their guns and liberties. The side of the gun control advocates can be seen through the likes of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. Just in In the United States itself has been said that a gun has been the top most violent weapon in violent crimes. Just into 2011, 128,900 of crimes were committed with firearms(Klimas). Also in the year of 2014,8,124 murders were used just by fire-arms(Quadl). Gun control is not only entirely reasonable but also certain to be effective. Some of the society needs to recognize in-state Manning fully that legally owning or selling guns only puts another life at risk.
Despite the common myth that guns protect you and your family from criminals, it actually worsens your chance of being injured or killed. If you own a gun, you are 4.5 times more likely to be shot than someone who doesn 't carry a weapon. You might feel safe having a gun, but if someone does try and hurt you, the chances are higher of your gun getting turned on you. Additionally, If you have a gun at home it 's more likely to be used to threaten a family member or intimate partner than self defense. In addition to this, “out of 61,466 gun incidents, only 2,039 were self defense”(Gun Violence Archive).Which is a small fraction out of total firearm incidents.
Personally, i find the whole guns for protection thing stupid. Guns are banned in so many countries and where i live is one of them. We don’t own guns or have weapons lying in our house for “safety reasons”. Yet, we’re save. I do however understand that in a country as big as America it is 10 times more likely for them to have murders, robberies or suicides, guns or no guns.
