Research Paper Prospectus Object of Study: In April of 2017, Mike Martin posted a video on his channel DaddyOFive which showcased a prank on his children (Schreiber). In the video Heather Martin, the children’s stepmother, and Mike Martin got invisible ink and sprayed it Cody’s, their son, carpet (Martin). Months before, the parents had to replace the carpet because Cody had sprayed ink on the ground which intensified the situation (Martin). In the video, they proceeded to pretend they were angry at him by yelling and using profanity (Martin). Heather Martin began with the words “Get your fucking ass up here” (Ohlheiser). Both parents profusely used the profanity and were screaming at the children. By the end of the prank when the parents stated they were joking the little boys were still red and crying (Ohlheiser). Context: Over the years DaddyOFive created nearly 300 videos and gained over 700,000 subscribers to their channel (Britto). The channel was based on pranks but starting in November of 2016 the videos grew worse and worse. The parents were eating up the fame and they would do more and more outrageous things to their kids to gain viewers. There was one prank where the dad taught his kid a lesson by smashing their Xbox with a hammer and bat while his son cried (Britto). There was another where the child was kicked out of the home and the child ended up crying (Britto). There was another where one child was singled out and not able to go to Disneyland because of his behavior (Britto). This is the verbal and emotional abuse that the parents had continued to make their child go through for the YouTube
