History as we know it has been evolving around us for many years even before our very existence. Every country and state originated from somewhere and the Mexicans have a very interesting and different way where they came from. The book “The Daily Life of the Aztecs” by Jacques Soustelle gives us a glimpse back into the 16th century of a society called the Aztecs or better known as the Mexicans or Mexica and their city of Tenochtitlan. Soustelle writes about the great civilization of the Aztecs and how they established throughout the years ranging from their culture, customs, religions, political order, education, gender roles, technology and architecture. Children stayed home and learned to do everyday things that their parents did for a living. Young boys had to transfer wood and water around and younger girls had to observe their mothers spinning cotton. As the boys got older then began to do more like starting to fish and work with boats while the girls would actually begin to spin cotton and learn to become the basic housewife. Over time the word education would soon change and children would actually begin to go to school to learn. The Tlatoani or better known as the emperor of the Aztec empire was the political order of the empire and held all of the state power. The home life of the Aztecs is more common homes were very uncomfortable to live in because they were made out of mud, the beds were mats that were better known as petlatl. The rich would decorate their home with paintings and flowers. They were a very clean civilization and always bathed in rivers and although they did not have soap they used an alternative of fruit known as Copalxocotl. Meals were usually small and consisted of plants, insects, beans, maize, cakes and seeds. Around ten o’clock no meals were served or eaten the main mean time was during the hottest hours of the day. Just like another of culture art was also a depiction of the animals, plants and people that were around at the time. Art was also used in the wealthy people’s home for decoration. Technology that wasn't so advanced for the Aztecs during the time of war because they did not have any metal, copper or bronze like their opponents in war so they only relied on their use of stone tools. Their writing was far more advanced than others because it was composed to pictures like pictographs.
