Daisy is the American Dream that leads to destruction like how the flower daisy, which is a weed and from the same family as dandelions, occupy beautiful lawns and destroy other plants nearby. Daisy is named “Daisy” for a reason. She destroyed both Gatsby and Myrtle. Myrtle envied Daisy and desired to be a high standard woman like her which in her opinion could be accomplished by having a great relationship with Tom while isolating her sick husband. Myrtle was instantly killed after she got struck by Daisy when she was driving Gatsby’s car. Daisy was insisting on driving the car and ended up running over Myrtle due to losing control of the brake. She totally tried to get away with it by staying silent. Gatsby died as well he was murdered instead of dying in an accident. Him succeeding in becoming rich led him to reach for Daisy to fulfill his dream which infuriated Tom. Gatsby was revolting and fake to Tom and that’s why when Wilson was searching for the yellow car that killed his wife, Tom exposed the Gatsby to him and that’s what caused him to haunt for Gatsby. He also did it to cover Daisy from the guilt and save her from Wilson. Tom indicates, “He was crazy enough to kill me if I hadn’t told him who owned the car” (178). In Nick’s opinion, every statement of Tom was a lie especially when he blamed Gatsby for running over Myrtle like “you’d run over a dog”(178).
